Established in 1989, Rhythmic Dance Centre aims to teach and inspire children from the age of 3 in a variety of dance styles, through creating a supporting and fun environment.

We aim to provide dance lessons in a friendly, professional way that everyone can afford. We have a number of studios in greater Hobart, including Brighton, Claremont, Huonville, Midway Point, Bellerive, New Norfolk, St Helen’s, Dunalley and Triabunna.

Classes are held weekly and students work towards performing in our end of year concert and mid-year challenge. All students receive a trophy in the December concert!

Costs are kept to a minimum with costumes being supplied at a small hire charge. Our amazing costumes are made by Kerry Wilks who donates all her time to making our students look fantastic on stage.

Meet the Teachers

Shelley Hyland

Principal & Founder

Shelley started dancing at Kindergarten and trained through Hobart Dance Academy and Kinetic Dance Studio.

Shelley still teaches and choreographs many of the classes across most studios, and oversees the team of teachers at RDC, including her own daughter Kahli.

“Dancing makes you happy, keeps you fit and young at heart. I have loved every moment of teaching and have been lucky to meet so many friendly people. It’s a reward to see dancer’s confidence shine through into their everyday lives.”

Debbie Wilks

Founder

Debbie trained at Hobart Dance Academy and Kinetic Dance Studio, and taught at Glenorchy YMCA and Kinetic Dance Studio.

The RDC family lost Deb as a friend, mentor and family member in 2024. Her legacy is strong within the dance community and the school she built with Shelley. Debbie influenced so many lives over 35 years with Rhythmic. Her daughter, Ciara continues her legacy teaching many of the students and next generations.

“I have so many great memories from my childhood dancing days and have had the privilege of running a successful dance school since 1989. I love teaching children and adults. I enjoy seeing the children develop into great dancers who grow up into confident adults and who make everlasting friendships.”
